Nobody was quite sure when Lane Kiffin received the overhead projector treatment courtesy of Al Davis if he could coach or not.

It was no more clear when he surfaced at Tennessee, where things remained muddled with a 7-6 record after a single season before leaving for what he called his “dream job” at USC.

After winning 12 of 33 games as a head coach in the NFL and the Southeastern Conference, Kiffin has a chance to go well beyond his words and prove himself.

If he keeps USC afloat with the loss of 30 scholarships over the next three years and survives the two years of bowl exile to return the Trojans to their rightful place atop the whatever-they’re-going-to-call-it conference, there will be no more doubting young Lance.

Former USC coach Pete Carroll, Kiffin’s coaching mentor other than his father, said he is shocked by the sanctions imposed by the NCAA. Kiffin did his best Sgt. Schulz routine before the media, saying he saw nothing and knew nothing regarding any improprieties.

For the past 5 years we've heard what an amazing recruiter Lance is. Don't think his hands are sanitary in all this dirty mess. He was the recruiting coordinator at USC those years and probably had more contact and influence with Players, families, etc than Pete Carroll did. Your star players are staying in private homes and coming to school in 20,000.00 dollar cars and you don't investigate? Did they ever open a book in college? Kiffin is a fraud and deserves this crap-storm thats raining down on him. Anyone who puts their tust in this guy will end up with their pants around their ankles. His recruits that jumped ship from Tennessee deserve to have their college careers irrelevant now too.

Kiffin, Carroll and Co. are a walking asterisk, can't have any success without cheating , lying and throwing others under the bus. Carroll will fail in Seattle and Kiff will be an assistant somewhere within 2 years.

Absolutely correct Bouty. How could any of this stuff be swept under the rug for as long as it was.  Every program has violation but USC was over the top with it. Lil Lancey cheated for everything he got to this point. Sure he was born into a football lifestyle, but he rode the coattails of his father and is still using Monte to this day. He's a classic case of a spoiled brat that is out of control.  I agree with Pete Carroll too. I think he's vastly overrated... Seattle is in deep shit! I see he screwed Lyndale White already too.
